Beaches

The ocean and various beaches are a short walk from CRTE. We quote from the City of Fort Lauderdale's web site which can be seen in its entirety by clicking the photo below. "The City of Fort Lauderdale boasts more than seven miles of sparkling beaches that offer residents and visitors premier opportunities for recreation, relaxation and enjoyment. The City’s award-winning wavewall and signature beachfront promenade highlight Fort Lauderdale’s world famous coastline, which is punctuated by an array of shops, restaurants, sidewalk cafes and entertainment venues. Beachgoers can participate in a wide range of activities from boating, wind surfing, jet skiing and volleyball to snorkeling, scuba diving, deep-sea fishing and rollerblading. Or, if relaxation is what you desire, simply sit back, unwind and enjoy breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean."

The beach near CRTE is relaxing with relatively few people. As you move further south along the beach, the number of people increases. Just south of The Palms is a small wooded beach, just south of that are surfers (most likely when the surf is rough). Further south is Sunrise Boulevard which becomes super-crowded with college students during spring break. About one mile south of Sunrise is Sebastian beach, popular among gay men. And about 4 blocks south of that is the world famous Las Olas beach which connects to the equally famous Las Olas Blvd. At the southern tip of all the beaches is Fort Lauderdale's South Beach which is enjoyed by local families and nearby hotel guests.

The BCt #11 bus stops near CRTE and makes most beach stops including Sunrise, Sebastian and Las Olas. The bus also runs north stopping at Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. Although there are a few parking spots close to the beach (often full), there is a large parking lot one block west of the beach just off Las Olas Boulevard. This lot and all other nearby indoor lots are jammed on major holidays and some weekends so an early arrival is recommended. There is a charge for parking along the entire length of the beach.

The City of Fort Lauderdale stations lifeguards along select portions of the beach. Please be aware of that if you or your guests choose to go into the ocean.
