Major freeways used by CRTE residents and guests include -
- I-95, the east coast's heavily travelled north-south freeway with congestion pricing in Miami that enables Express Lane travel provided the driver has SunPass or SunPass-mini (NOTE: For complete detail refer to the botton of this page, and then click the INTERACTIVE ICON on the right)
- I-595, Fort Lauderdale's quick access to the western suburbs as well as access to Allligator Alley, free
- I-75, a partial toll road connecting Alligator Alley and Florida's west coast to Fort Myers and Tampa
- Florida's turnpike, a toll road and the best way to Disney World and Key West, both of which require some intricate road switching
- Sawgrass Expressway (Rte 869), a toll road running N/S in Fort Lauderdale's western suburbs, connecting Boca Raton and Deerfield Beach with I-75
- Palmetto Expressway (Rte 826) connecting the Golden Glades Interchange (turnpike, I-95, Rte 826, HOV flyover lanes all inter-connect there) going both E/W and then N/S through Miami, free
- Dolphin Expressway (Rte 836) going E/W through Miami connecting I-95 to Miami Airport and then crossing the Palmetto, toll in certain areas
- I-195, the E/W Julia Tuttle Causeway connecting I-95 with Miami Beach at Alton Road near Mount Sinai Hospital, free
- I-395, the brief extension of the Dolphin going E/W and connecting I-95 with the MacArthur Causeway to South Beach with an exit to the Port of Miami, free

Many CRTE residents have purchased a Florida SunPass or SunPass-mini electronic device which adheres to the interior of the car window. The SunPass allows passage through all Florida toll roads without the need to stop at a toll booth as it automatically debits your credit/debit card. This device is similar to New York State's EZ Pass.
Making the best of it. Congestion pricing with express lanes to the rescue.
I95 Express Lanes. During certain times of the day, I95 in Miami can be a nightmare. The State has created express lanes to reduce the congestion but a toll must be paid. The toll varies as to the congestion at the time and the dollar amout can range from free to big bucks just to travel a short strip of highway. Everything is electronic including the manner in which the toll is paid. You must have a Florida Sunpass or Sunpass-mini to travel the express lanes. Cash is unacceptable and without the SunPass you must remain in the congested lanes. Also, if you are heading north on I95 and are in the Express Lanes for which you have paid electronically, once you go over the flyover lanes at Golden Glades, you then will enter the HOV restricted left lane for North Miami and Broward. If you are driving solo and do not have a hybrid, you must get out of the left lane at the restricted times showing on the overhead signs or you will be ticketed. If you own a hybrid, you can remain in the HOV restricted lanes at all times provided you have an official sticker so indicating on the car. Check with your hybrid car dealer for more information.
